Reflective verbs

Reflective verbs are another challenge but in fact you need to remember this rule:

Reflective verbs are necessary, when the subject is the same as the object!

Take the verb “waschen” (to wash). So far we learned S + V + O
ich wasche das Obst. I wash the fruit.

But we can also wash ourselves, the pattern is the same, but the object reflects from the subject. S + V + O (refl. acc.)
Ich wasche mich. I wash myself.

In sentences with dative and accusative, the dative is the reflection.
S + V + O (refl. dat.) + O (acc.)
Ich wasche mir die Hände. I wash my hands.

The difficulty in my opinion is to know what patterns are possible for each verb.

You can watch examples, exercises (do them!) and the pronoun tables in those 2 videos and reflective verbs will be no mystery anymore: >>>

Summary of the table:

Acc.: mich/dich/sich/uns/euch/sich
Dat.: mir/dir/sich/uns/euch/sich
