Comparative form

What is comparative?

The comparative is used with adjectives in order to compare differences.
Comparing similarities uses another grammar.

The main rule is quite easy: adjective + er

laut – lauter
schmutzig – schmutziger
grün – grüner

Check out this video to see some irregular forms >>

Sometimes adverbs can be put in comparative and also the counting words
wenig and viel.

Am Ende des Monats hat er weniger Geld.
At the end of the month he has less money

Comparing 2 things in one sentence have the following pattern:

A + V + Comp. + (O) als + B

Er spricht besser Deutsch als seine Schwester.
He speaks better German than his sister.
